EMI PAKISTAN LTD

The Gramophone Company of Pakistan was the original name of what we know today as EMI Pakistan.

It is the oldest and largest music company in Pakistan. Almost all film music was released by EMI in the early days. They have the largest film music archive dating back to 1939. Film music was released on vinyl, then cassette and today on digital platforms. EMI is one of the very few companies who have maintained the musical heritage of Pakistani Cinema and they continue to do so.

Today vinyl is very collectible as people realize that digital recordings just can not recapture the warmth and quality of vinyl sound. Pakistani vinyl is especially important. Much of the original track recordings during the 90s were distorted by the introduction of junker music. Until recently original Pakistani film music was difficult to acquire. Even dvd/vcd distributers were using junker mixes edited over for film tracks. While junker is very popular and liked by many it has had detrimental impact on the original recordings to the point that they had almost become extinct.

However, today people have realized the importance of the original recordings and there are many collectors who seek out the original EMI Vinyl and cassette recordings.Apex has an extensive catalogue of original EMI vinyl along with its film archive. Most film songs were released on 45s as volume 1, 2 and 3. Some films were released on LP. Old vinyl recordings are very rare but can still be purchased. A few private sellers specialize in selling it.

Here we will share some of the cover art work in our archive. Some of it is very rare and no longer available.

Apex has sourced its Pakistani vinyl form all over the world, but mainly Pakistan.
